§ 2-283. Appointment.

  • (a)

    The mayor, with the consent and approval of the majority of the members of the council, shall appoint a director of public works. The director of public works shall also be the director of the city's solid waste management program. Upon appointment, he shall swear that he does not, and during the continuance in office, will not have any direct or indirect financial benefit in any contract made with the city for public works.

    (b)

    The director of public works shall also be styled the city engineer unless the mayor, with the consent and approval of the majority of the members of the council, shall appoint a resident of the city to serve as city engineer. In such event, the city engineer shall swear that he does not, and during the continuance in office, will not have any direct or indirect financial benefit in any contract made with the city for public works and shall perform such duties as required by ordinance or resolution of the city or by state statute.

    (c)

    The director of public works shall also serve as the street commissioner. The street commissioner shall advise the mayor and council on the ordinances affecting roads, streets, alleys, other public thoroughfares and public places in the city and perform such other duties as might be required of the street commissioner by the provisions of this Code and by the mayor and council.
